How does the whitening process work?
It begins with a consultation. We talk about the shade you are aiming for, check that whitening is appropriate for your teeth and restorations, then take impressions so custom trays can be made for you.
The in-office solution is considerably stronger than anything sold over the counter, and one session is usually enough to see a real difference.
You then continue at home with your trays and a milder gel. We give you clear instructions on how long to wear them and how often, so the result builds gently rather than all at once.
Who is a candidate for teeth whitening?
Nearly everyone benefits to some degree. Teeth that are severely discoloured — particularly from medication or internal staining — respond less dramatically, and in those cases veneers may be the better route. A short consultation tells you which category you are in.
Is professional whitening painful?
No. Some patients feel mild sensitivity to cold during or shortly after treatment, and it typically settles within a couple of days. We use a desensitising protocol to keep that to a minimum.
